Energy Management

Corentin Mercier’s talk on how to reduce the carbon footprint of the cluster covers the following topics
> The energy consumption of the cluster
> Solutions to reduce it
> The new system to shut down idle nodes and its user manual
> Estimations of the energy saved thanks to the new system
> What users can do to help

Closure of PlaFRIM from June 10th to 13th 2022

Dear all,

In order to proceed with the annual total electric shutdown of the building scheduled on June 11th, we have to shut down the PlaFRIM infrastructure from June 10th during the afternoon.
The restart is scheduled on Monday June 13th during the day. We will take advantage of this stop to update SLURM to the latest available stable version.
Thank you for your understanding.

New zonda and sirocco nodes available

New compute nodes are now available (see https://www.plafrim.fr/hardware-documentation/):

  • zonda[07-21]: 2 * AMD EPYC 7452 32-Core Processor and 256 GB RAM
  • sirocco21: 2 * AMD EPYC 7402 24-Core Processor and 2 GPU Nvidia Ampere A100 and 512 Go RAM

To reserve them, use the constraints “zonda” or “a100”.

These machines have just been integrated, do not hesitate to contact us if you see improvements to be made or need further information.

New nodes available

New compute nodes are now available (see https://www.plafrim.fr/hardware-documentation/):

  • bora [041-044] : 2 * Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 6240 CPU and 192 GB RAM (identical to bora[001-040])
  • zonda [01-06] : 2 * AMD EPYC 7452 32-Core Processor and 256 GB RAM
  • sirocco [18-20] : 2 * Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 5218R Processor and 2 Nvidia Quadro RTX8000 GPUs and 192 GB RAM

To reserve them, use the constraints “bora”, “zonda” or “rtx8000”.

Update for the squeue command

All,

Users are now allowed to use the squeue command on the devel nodes
through sudo, to display information about all jobs.

sudo squeue

squeue is the only command for which information about all users will
be made available to all, as its information are not a breach to the
GPDR related constraints.

Cheers,

The PlaFRIM team
